VPNRice for Linux

VPNRice for Linux desktops is in development. In the meantime, Linux users can route their browser through VPNRice with the extension for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers, or with the add-on for Firefox, both of which run on the common desktop distributions.

In development This app isn’t available yet. The options below work today.

Status

Linux desktops differ in network managers, init systems and packaging formats, and a VPN app has to work well with all of them. We are building the Linux app on the same core as our Windows app and will publish it here once it is ready for everyday use.

What you can use today

  • Chrome and Chromium

The VPNRice extension runs in Google Chrome and in Chromium-based browsers that install from the Chrome Web Store, on any distribution.

  • Firefox

Many distributions ship Firefox by default. Add the VPNRice add-on from Firefox Add-ons; it needs Firefox 142 or later.

  • No root access needed

Browser extensions install per user, so you can use them on shared or managed machines without system changes.

How to install VPNRice on Linux

  1. Open Chrome, Chromium or Firefox on your Linux desktop.
  2. Use the Chrome or Firefox button on this page to open the official store listing.
  3. Add the extension and confirm the permissions prompt.
  4. Click the VPNRice icon in the toolbar, choose a country and click Connect.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a command-line client or a WireGuard config for Linux?

Not at the moment. VPNRice does not hand out manual configuration files; connections are set up by our apps.

Which distributions will the Linux app support?

We will list supported distributions on this page when the app is released.

Does the browser extension protect my whole system?

No. It routes traffic from the browser only. Package managers, terminals and other apps keep using your normal connection.

Does the Firefox add-on work with Snap or Flatpak Firefox?

The add-on is installed inside Firefox itself, so it works the same way regardless of how Firefox was packaged, as long as it is version 142 or later.

Can I use my account on Linux and my phone at the same time?

Your account works across VPNRice apps. The number of devices your account can use at once is shown in the app.

Where will the release be announced?

In the News section of this site and on this page.
