Protect your Instagram account yourself: How to recover from an intrusion

2023, Aug 29

Hacking Instagram accounts is a common problem, especially for those with a large number of followers or those with a lot of personal content on their accounts. If you suspect that your Instagram account may have been hacked, there are some common warning signs you can look for.

Signs that can tell if your Instagram has been hacked or not?

1. Unauthorized posts or activities
2.Account Abnormal Behavior
3.A sudden drop in followers or engagement
4.Change email or password
5.Suspicious login attempts
6.Unable to login
7.Unfamiliar device
8.Unusual activity on your feed
9.Suspicious Direct Messages and Suspicious Links

How to get back your Instagram account after being hacked?

Step 1: Check if you can still login with your password
If you detect one or more of the warning signals mentioned above, try logging in to your account to check the current status. There are some hackers who can access your social media accounts without changing your password. This can happen when they have access to your account, even if they just borrowed your phone.
If you can still sign in to your Instagram account, or you're staying signed in on one of your devices, make a change to your password immediately. This helps stop intruders before they have a chance to cause harm by changing your personal information, deleting your photos, or posting unwanted posts on your profile.
Step 2: Check your email to undo account changes
If you receive an email from Instagram informing you that your email address has been changed, act quickly.
This email could be a sign that a hacker is trying to steal your account. If you don't take any action, a hacker can change your password and you won't be able to access your account.
To undo this change, click the "Secure my account" hyperlink in the email.
Step 3: Restore your account through the app
On the Instagram login page, tap Forgot Password?
Select Search by phone number
Enter your mobile number then tap Find Account
You will receive an SMS with a link to reset your password
Follow the prompts to change your password
How to prevent Instagram account from being hacked
1.Create a strong password
2. Opt-in to two-factor authentication (2FA)
3.Monitor login activity
4.Enable Security Notification
5.Using VPN
6.Always keep your software up to date
