Connect to multiple VPN locations on your router

2023, Sep 30

People who use Rice VPN on their routers really appreciate the unlimited connectivity to the VPN on a variety of devices, including smart TVs and gaming consoles. This means they can enjoy all the advantages of a VPN without limitations on the number of devices connected to their VPN router.
However, sometimes, there are situations when you want to have only certain devices in your home network connected to the specific VPN location you have chosen. For example, you might want your smart TV to be connected to a server in the US while your laptop is connected to a server in Australia.
This is why we developed the Device Groups feature. This feature allows users to connect separate groups of devices to different VPN locations on their router.
How does device grouping work?
Usually, a VPN router puts all devices through the same VPN location, but with our new feature, you have the ability to create up to five groups for your devices. Each pod can be connected to a specific VPN location of your choice. Organizing your devices into groups is a simple process, just tap or drag and drop on their easy-to-use interface.
Want your smart TV in a US location? Select that group and connect it to the server in San Francisco. Need to conduct mobile banking transactions in France? Put your phone in the Paris group. Want your laptop to show local results? Connect it to a server near your physical location. All these connections are protected by Rice VPN's best encryption.
For each group, you can also choose:
1.Smart Location: To automatically choose the best location based on network conditions.
2.No VPN: When you want a device connected to the router but not using VPN.
3.MediaStreamer: Our DNS service enhances the streaming experience without using a VPN.
We designed the Device Grouping feature to give users maximum flexibility without disrupting other connections on the VPN router. Whether you want to protect your privacy or satisfy your personal needs at home, we're here to help.
How to use Device Groups
The device pool is available on the Rice VPN router firmware
On your computer or mobile device, make sure you're connected to your VPN router and signed in:
1. Add new groups: Name the groups you want to create, for example, "Streaming," "Work," or "Family."
2.Choose a VPN location for each group: Determine the specific VPN location you want to apply to each group.
3.Drag your connected devices into groups: Easily organize your devices into their respective groups by dragging and dropping them.
If you don't have Rice VPN installed on your router, don't worry! All of these features are included in your Rice VPN subscription. When you connect Rice VPN on your router, it counts as one of eight devices you can connect to simultaneously with a 6- or 12-month plan (or one of five devices with a monthly plan), while you still have the ability to connect an unlimited number of devices to the router VPN.
